Are we “Too old for piercing”

My wife and I are 61. I’ve been trying to get her nips pierced. Her argument is that we are too old to get pierced. “That’s for 20 something people.”

Only in the last 15-20 or so years has it been for 20-somethings.
The roots of American body piercing, from the 1960s on…. primarily people in their 40s-60s.
The youth culture surge came in the late 1980s early 1990s, thanks in part to the book MODERN PRIMITIVES, our own PAUL KING doing a navel piercing on Alicia Silverstone in an Aerosmith video and the advent of the Internet and BME.

You guys are the perfect demographic for body piercing…. someone who wants it because they want it, not because they’re trying to fit in.

  1. Maybe she just doesn’t want her nipples pierced :-p

  2. some of my most loved/enjoyed clients have been in that 40-60’s demographic.

  3. If you are still asking at this point if you should get a piercing than do it for the sake of growing a pair!

Not intending rudeness, but really… at this point in your life if you are still craving attention, don’t do it. i am 38 and looking for the right person to hold my hand and nothing more.

if you aren’t sure, don’t do it until you are.

  4. My oldest client so far was an octagenarian.

  5. Do you have any idea how FREAKING COOL it is that anyone over 50 wants piercings?

Not that it’s a coolness thing, not that you’re doing it for attention, but it warms my heart that basically anyone from all walks of life can walk into a studio and say “pierce me!”.

All this being said, get pierced yourself dammit! Don’t ask your wife to do something she doesn’t want to do. At least not until you can show her it’s NOT just for 20 somethings!

Now to get my mum to agree to a piercing… (she’s 59 this year).

  6. I love what I just read. I happen to love body piercings. I am a 52 year old woman. I have seven piercings in my ears. I had a nostril and cartilage done but unfortunately they didn’t take. I am trying to make up my mind now as to a tragus or eyebrow piercing. Relatives my age say don’t do it but it is my body and I like to express myself in this way. I’m not trying to look young. That doesn’t happen when you are my age. =) It would take a lot more than a piercing. One thing I would like to mention is, how come on your site as well as others that have photos of piercings, I seldom see photos of people in there 50’s or older?

Clairia on January 12th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
  7. Clairia - you do in the genital piercing galleries!!

I can’t speak for other sites, but bmezine is a contribution-based site so if very few people over the age of fifty submit their pictures, there will be very few pictures of older people with piercings.

  8. You’re never too old, but don’t pressure your wife if she’s not sure. I am 32 and felt a bit old to be getting my nipples pierced 3 years ago, but I’m so glad I did it! I agree with Aggie - how about getting it done yourself first (if you haven’t already)? You will love it, and I bet your wife will too :o)

  9. I’m 45 and I have my belly nose tounge lip and nipples and hood pierced my husban loves them and I might get another hood piercing people in the streets have admired them but at 60 nipple piercings are not that good plus they hurt alot I would recomend a belly nose or tounge piercing to start with. Good luck.

  10. I’m 35 and my mum works in the piercing industry she’s 60 and has slot of piercings such as her belly nose hood nipples eyebrow and cheeks. I think they look cool when I was 1 I got 3piercings in each ear at 5 I got the top of my ears done at nine I got my nose and belly at 12 I got my tounge done at 14i got my belly pierced all the way round 5 times in total and at 18 I got my hood done3 times now I’m thinking on getting both my nipples pierced my mum keeps encouraging me so I think I will I think that if your wife gets her nipples pierced you should get yours done first(I think they hurt quite a bit) nipple piercings are quite cool so you should both get them done I will next week 2 on each. Good luck and stay metal

  11. I am 64 years old and have3/4″ tunnels in my lobes. Now I know that I can’t fit in with the twenty something but I can enjoy modifying my body and having a sense of satisfaction in controlling my own mods, recognizing that I am retired and not required to conform to any specific dress codes or regulations.Besides, the sterotyping notion that I am too old to be modified is, well, in other peoples minds, not necessarily mine.

Pete on April 21st, 2009 at 10:23 pm
  12. Your never too old for piercings if you feel you would like them. I had my first piercing a PA done at 70 My artist said this would start me off and I would want some and tattoo as well.

It seems that your wife does not wish to have any piercings. This is similar to me I tried to encourage my wife to have a tattoo and piercings but she is not happy and cannot be persuaded and if I pushed it we should only fall out.
So I suggest you leave it and enjoy your own body modifcations.

My Piecing Artist was correct as 3 months after my first piercing I added a triple lower belly pubic tattoo. Then over past 3 years or so 2 nipple piercing followed by tattoo surround to them an ampallang and final 2 vertical nipple bars giving me crossed nipple piercings. I am pleased with the results.

    Hope my comments help.

  13. I am 49 years old and just got my nipples pierced (male) I didn’t do it for attention or for anyone else. I did it for me and I love them. I agree with some of the other suggestions, get yours pierced first if you haven’t already. I want my wife to get hers pierced but she has no desire so I drop it. If you want something pierced get it done, and who cares what others think.

Randy on June 11th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
  14. I’m 51 and have nine piercings in my ears…all done before I hit 40, as I recall. I just got my 2nd (and probably last) tattoo on my right arm (the other is on my left). Now I’m thinking about stretching my lobes just a bit…to an 8 or 6 gauge. A just-turned 30 friend has some neat earrings that made me start thinking about this.

All this has been an evolving journey that aint over yet ! So you’re only too old if you THINK you are !

  16. I’ve been trying to turn my (50+ year old) parents on to the piercing and tattoo thing. I don’t think age has anything to do with body mods, its how you feel when you have them : ]

  17. Diamonds. :)

Seriously… my mother got her ears pierced at age 59 because my father bought her diamond earrings to wear for my wedding.

So… find a shop that will order custom jewelry, and present her with diamonds. :p

  24. I am 50 and I have been getting pierced ad tattoos since I was about 39. I have 7 holes in each ear since then I have gotten my eyebrow, nose, nipples and genital lip pierced, without my husbands permission…screw that…it’s my body. He hates them all but I don’t care. I have 8 tattoos which he did go to the tattoo parlor with me for one of them. He doesn’t offer any comments, he knows I will do as I please anyway….lol Your as young as you feel!

  25. Hello to you all, just a bit of opinion please.
I am a 41 year old guy, never been able to express myself, but now i am on my own i have found out a hell of a lot about myself.
I have bought the sports car, motor bike and growing my hair long - amongst other things…..
Will it be too much to now get a tattoo and both my ears pierced?
Your opinions will be gratefully received.
    Many thanks

Oohh im so glad i looked up this page, i am 30yo with 16mm ear tunnels, i was considering taking them out as i feel im getting older, then after reading the comments i realise i need to lighten up & be happy & not become the average joe, i have huge respect for all of u guys & gals getting pierced & inked in ur 40s , 50s & 60s & beyond i think its great

  31. I’m 17, going to turn 18 next month. My ears are at 7/8″ & I can’t wait to be older, not have to take them out “because I have to”, get more mods, and still love my body. Seeing older people on this site who love body modification as much as the younger generation really makes me happy. You can never be too old to be happy in your own skin. Thanks guys. :)

  32. I was 47 when I got my nose done and I love it. I always wanted it done but….then I figured who cares what others might say. It is only a personal opinion anyways. Now I am 48 and yesterday I went and got my eyebrow done with my teen daughter and I think it is cute. As far as some people that say it is for attention, or wanting to fit in that is just an opinion and not myn. :)

  33. I once saw a 50-something man out with his younger son and he had two eyebrow piercings, two lip piercings, one in his septum and one between his eyes. He looked awesome and it was great to see he still felt free to express himself at his age.

  34. I had my first piercing in 2001 and a second one a year later. Both were on my frenum and I stretched them to 0 gauge within a year. The first one was done by White Tiger in Sarasota and they ripped me off with an excessively high fee. That one migrated out, but the newer one is alive and well and provides me with joy. I use the pierced site to anchor an electric unit ( The Sparkler) that is made of conductive rubber and is about 7 inches long.
I am now 76 and have electrosex several times per week with orgasms that can only be described as overwhelming.

  35. I am so glad to see us boomers come out of the closet! LOL!
I had my belly button pierced at age 42 and I’m 58 now - still glad I did it! My sign is Virgo - and we have a “terrible” belly fetish. LOL! The belly ring is a Virgo Sapphire.I did not get a piercing to please anyone else but to satisfy my navel fetish as a Virgo. Age and sexual preferance is not important in body jewlry. It is not gay or straight to get any piercing - it is a personal choice, that’s all, plain and simple.I enjoy the body jewlry scene on men and women.
You have to do it for YOURSELF - do not condemn or force this expression on anyone else if they do not prefer to get a tattoo or piercing. But age is no excuse - have fun! You go around one time…..

  36. If the idea of getting pierced wont leave your head after many years then it must be something that you just have to get done. If it is a passing fad then the idea would have gone by now.
If the desire is still as strong then what is the harm BUT - this is my opinion - mature men with earrings often look pretty tragic. Have it discretely for your enjoyment only.

  37. I am 58 My wife pierced both my ears when I was 50. My wife is 60 and has 4 holes in each year and a nose ring and has a visiable tattoo on each arm. My female boss who is 55 has a nose stud. I think you are never to old to get your body modified. Go for it.

  38. You aren’t too old until they nail the box shut. I’m 56, both arms sleeved in Japanese-style work, 6 other tattoos, 2 earrings on left, one on right, both nipples, 6g PA. Most of that was done in the last decade, although I’ve had pro tattoos since 1976 [covered my self-done crap, which I had since 12]. My girlfriend turned 63 yesterday, she got her nostril pierced in summer 2009. So, just because you are XXX years old doesn’t mean you’re too old for fun. Go for it!

  40. I am a 57 year old woman with a bit of a belly. I would like to get a belly ring but feel kind of foolish doing so. My husband would be the only one to see it and he has even gone so far as to suggest I get my nipples pierced too. He’s all about trying different things.

Please offer your honest opinions and comments.

    Thank you.

  41. Well, my advice for you is not not pressure your wife into doing something she’s not keen on. I love scarification on men, but I’d never, ever ask my fiance to do it, as I know the thought of it would repel him.

If you’re keen on piercings, why not get some yourself?

  42. I am 64 years young, 3 months ago had a prince albert piercing. You are never too old but as other folks have said,if you yourself have no piercings then go for it first, suprise the wife!!! She may well take a visit herself! Please note that they become rather addictive, i now have a PA, a 5 rung frenum ladder which will be extended ,then under my scrotum, finnishing with several guishes. An ampalang and reverse PA next year. WHO SAYS YOUR TOO OLD!!Best wishes for crimbo & new year, Ian.

  43. I didn’t start until I was 50 yo. I am now 60 and living in a super conservative town. I have ears at 7/8, nipples, 0g PA, and a hafada as well as tattoos. I have had many others that have been retired. In 1990 it was considered to be radical. Now, it is quite acceptable (darn it!). This is a personal decision, if your wife or partner doesn’t want to do it, don’t encourage it.

  44. i am male and had my ears pierced when i was young, but then never bothered to wear rings. i have had other body piercings over the years, but at the age of 58 have got into ear stretching - now at 14 mil (stopping now). i have also had 3 helix piercings last week, and when healed will be getting a triple helix spiral. i think age is immaterial. i have had nothing but positive comments. i am also over 95% tattooed. it feels good to be different.

  45. Thank you so much! I am only 17 but I have a very accepting mother. It makes me so happy to hear about older generations till modifying. Hell no you are not to old. Honest to goodness anyone that wont accept you because of your modifications doesn’t deserve your attention. I live in a wildly conservative area and it can be very hurtful when others don’t appreciate your art the way you do partially because these decisions are so personal. Please don’t pressure your wife if she doesn’t want modified. It can be every bit as aggravating as someone begging you not to. :)

It’s the best thing I’ve done and nobody should have any hesitation in having a PA.

I never want to stop being myself, and doing what I want to with my body, and I hope that the two of you don’t, either.

  56. This does make me feel less weird. Thank you all. I am 65, and retired and thank all the gods for piercings. My first ones were done by Jim Ward back in the late 70s and early 80s. Some have been removed, one was basically torn out, but they are all part of me. My PA is my biggest joy right now. From a 6ga for a long time, removal for a while, I am now up to a 00 gage, and have the next one on hand ready to go. My next excursion should be to a transscrotal piercing if I can find the artist to do it. I am really looking forward to that, then a guiech.

I ended up having to take my nips out due to not wanting to heal after 2 years but after lots of research have decided to give it a go again with good titanium bars and will be getting them redone soon. I am also planning on getting a couple of small tats and I will be 50 this year. I miss my nip piercings so much and love the other 2. They have made me more proud of my body then you can imagine!!

  61. I pierced my own PA 22 years ago after reading about it in a magazine. My wife’s reaction was ‘either that goes or I do’, so I’ve never worn anything in it at home. She’s definitely not going to have her nipples pierced…
When I’ve been away on business trips I’ve enjoyed wearing a variety of jewellery and the hole gradually stretched to 15mm before breaking through last year, so I’ve now got a slot to pee through.
I’d say discuss it first and if the response is positive, go for it. I’m now 65 and sorry I didn’t include her at the outset.

  62. I had my tongue pierced when I was 29, had a VCH done at 30, and just had both nipples done last week, and I’m now 38. I’ve been married for 18 years now and my husband loves the piercings. He even went with me to see my nipples getting pierced. About 9 years ago, he even had his tongue pierced too but we both took the tongue studs out as they are incredibly hard on dental work. My opinion is that “you’re old enough to know better but young enough not to care”.

  63. I am 40 and although I have ‘retired piercings’, I recently had a midlife crisis and decided to hell with academia, I’m going to do what I want. I resumed my piercing fetish where I left off at age 23 when I went to Smith College. Instead of genital piercings, which I thought were quite edgy in my then-lesbian, alternative lifestyle, I now focus on what I feel are beautiful facial piercings. The greatest irony is that, while I am loathe go to under the knife, I get dermals like no tomorrow. Then the blood gushes. Who cares? Life is too short and we might all get cancer. Do what you want. I life in a ueber-Red state and plan to make my second career as a writer anyway, so pierce it up, homies.

  66. I say definately not too old. I’m 42 and have many piercings. Ears ( traguses , conches, rooks, forward helixes, cartilage and lobes ) as well as a gauged triple loop coil, both nostrils double pierced, lip, navel and tongue. I also have 3 dermals on my wrist, 2 on the back of my neck, one on throat and one above cleavage. Planning on getting septum done this week. I love my piercings ! And oddly, I get a lot of compliments from all kinds of people and age groups. I think its great and don’t think anyone is too old. It’s funny because some people will do a double take but then ask questions about them and some have gone out and gotten pierced themselves. I say do it because it’s something you want to do. What one may want is not necessarily what another may want. Its an idividual choice of expression. Therefore,I wouldn’t pressure anyone into doing something they don’t want.

  67. I have my belly button pierced when I was 44. I’m now 62 and still proud of my piercing. For a men it’s an uncommon piercing but I liked it and I took it for myself. I think I’m not too old for a piercing

  68. Grace, in response to your “am I too old for a nose piercing at age 27″, I at age 48 when going through a particularly stressful ongoing period at work, decided to act upon my long held desire for a nose piercing. I got the piercing and never looked back. Fortunately, I work for a rather forward thinking employer who is more concerned with the quality of one’s work over conforming to standards of business dress. I only wish I had done the nose piercing years before, I would’ve had another 21 years to enjoy something else in life had I gotten my piercing when I was your age. Oh God, I guess I am starting to sound like an old fart here. I am hoping and planning on getting my nips pierced soon. I need to get a mammogram first. The point I am trying to make here is life is short. If a hole in someone’s skin or a bit of ink on someone’s arm or whatever makes them a happier human, then I say go for it.

  70. I am 31 years old and I have been getting pierced since I was 12. They are a part of me and I have no intentions of ever taking them out. If anything I have plans to get more. I have my lip, both nostrils, septum, madonna, nipples, upper and lower navel, plus 3 stretched earlobe holes. I also have several visible tattoos. I am a supervisor at a professional financial company and I do find that I have to work a little harder then others to prove myself and to breakdown peoples first impression of me. But with all that said, the body mods are absolutely worth it.

  72. I am 49, I had a monroe for 3 years, and a nose piercing. I’ve always wanted an eyebrow piercing and will be getting it done soon. I started getting inked in my 30’s, the hidden ones, now I’m getting more obvious ones on my arms, things that hold deep meaning for me from living so long heh heh. Truthfully, I struggle still with what people think, and am fighting that mentality I guess, cause I don’t have a strong backbone. I really am happy that I found this site and all the boomers who love this freedom and the young people that really admire us. I want to develop that attitude that life is too short, have fun and who cares what conservative people think! :) xo

  73. I am 47… I am glad that I stumbled across this forum. I have my nostirl pierced and my ears pierced. I have gotten both nipps pierced and my vch in the past 4 months. I love them! I had struggled with my decision of getting them because my children said I was too old! I had thought about it and I went with what I wanted! I am so glad I did! I am very happy with both of them! This week I am getting a medusa piercing. I have decided that it had nothing to do with age and everything to do with what I want and what makes me happy!

  74. Great thread. I have wanted a PA for yrs. Thot I wanted a frenum as a consolation. Any at 50+ I thot I was nuts. My wife and I got nipples done (she both me one) at 40 as sorta rite of passage. I’d love her to go withe and get labia or VCH Or whatever she wants, but she is done. I’m finally gettingy PA ANYWAY, and not as previous folks have said cuz others have but I love how it looks AND how everyone says it feels.

Thanks to all you other over 40 crowd for sharing experiences –and conviction. Like it was said, do it cuz you want to not cuz you’re being told to–or not to!

  76. My son got his ears pierced 4 years ago, planning to stretch. I thought he was nuts. Why would anyone want big holes in their ears? When he started stretching, I liked the look. I made the comment that I liked it but thought I was too old to get it done. He said “Mom, they’re your ears. If you want to stretch, go for it.” I did. I got my ears pierced in high school, a million years ago…lol. I added the second hole when I was 33. I got the third hole when he got his ears pierced. He was 16 and I was 52! I started stretching the lower holes and every time I said “This is it. I’m not going any bigger.” I am now 57 and am at a 0ga. I stretched the other holes as well. I have three piercings in each lobe…16ga, 14ga, and 0ga. Two days ago I added a rook. In July I had my nostril pierced. I love them all, but still felt that maybe I really WAS too old, that is until I found this site and read the comments. They made my day! BTW…I would stretch up from the 0 except that I want to keep the 14’s and 16’s and I think stretching up from 0 would crowd the others and make them look weird. Also, my son is at 1 1/8″ lobes, has his septum pierced, and wants to get a nose hoop. One of his friends is a professional piercer. Oh, and tattoos? I have four. He has six. I’m bookmarking this site :)

  77. I just got my navel pierced at age 56. I did it for me as I certainly do not have a belly I want to show off to the general public, but I had a surgical scar from an umbilical hernia fix that was done ten years ago and was tired of looking at it. I was lucky that my piercer deemed me a suitable candidate for a navel piercing. Now there is a small lavender crystal curved barbell sitting over the scar. I grin every time I see it. My piercer told me he is pleased to see someone get a piercing just for herself, not because of any fad or pressure from anyone to get it done. He said that there is no reason why a person who doesn’t have the flat, toned twenty year old belly shouldn’t get a navel piercing as long as the anatomy is suitable for it.

  78. I am happy and excited to read of the woman above, who had her navel pierced at age 56! Well done you!

Although my navel and helix have been pierced since the 90s, when I was younger, I am well over 50 now, and had my eyebrow pierced this past December. I love it!

And yes, I get strange looks occasionally, but I love my tiny eyebrow barbells so much, I don’t care.

If body piercing had been popular when I was very young, I would have gotten my piercings done then… but they weren’t. Bravo to all those who are “older”, but follow their hearts, and get pierced!

  79. The youth think everything is theirs and about them. Haha, My kids would flip-out if they only knew. I’ll be 57 this coming August. In January of this year, I got a Prince Albert piercing, that currently is a 4ga, but it soon is going to a 2ga. Also, within the past month, I got deep double dydoe piercings. I love ‘em. As soon a practical, my dydoes will be stretched to 12ga, then eventually 10ga. Right now, I’m trying to decide whether to have my ears, nipples, or tongue pierced. More exactly, which I’ll have done FIRST!

  80. I am so glad I found this site. I have been thinking about getting my nipples pierced. I am 42 and was thinking I was too old. I don’t think that now after reading the posts here. I have wanted to do this for a while now and didn’t know how my husband would feel about it. Turns out he has wanted me to do it and didn’t know how I would feel about it. I have several tattoos already and will be getting more soon. I think I will be adding a couple of piercings to my body as well. Thanks to everyone.

  81. I am so happy i found this website. I am 32 and I have a monroe atm- but i have had small stretched ears, labrets ect,, been pierced since 2000 and started getting tattoo’s in 2005 (planning my forth) My family is very conservative and they think I am really ridiculous for modifying any part of myself, especially in my early thirties and befond. I have been thinking of getting the other side of my top lip done, for angel bites, but I was worried I was “too old for it” and about finding a more professional job. i think because of how my family always treated me I still felt secretly nervous about it even at this age.. Seeing that there are older people who accept and participate in this scene really makes me happy and confident again. Just so you know i am not a total push over, i do have lavender hair, and I wear whatever I want, although I will admit I have softened a little in the past ten years…I am not a hardcore industrial goth anymore (but only because I got bored with itlol ).. but i still wear all black everyday. for me i just wondered if I was too old, simply because I don’t want to be harassed because it is annoying. It’s funny though.. Elderly people and children seem to love the way I look haha.. I will dye my hair until the day i die.. but i am excited for silver or gray hair! I encourage anyone to be themselves, so i am really glad to know there are like minded people out there.

  82. hey you are right! go for it if you want a piercing. I am going to be 60 and just got my frenum pierced about 3 weeks ago. It was a good experience, love the fact that I did something for myself. I will go back for more and now looking for a tattoo. I think it is time to take care of myself and enjoy my body and do want I think is great. you are not too old for body modifications. I love the fact that I can now be proud of my body and be confident enough to have body jewelry to remind myself that I AM OK.

  84. I am a well-preserved fifty-six and have four tattoos, one of which is a half sleeve, and another of which I have had for more than twenty years. Both are custom and one has been featured in a magazine. I am planning on getting one more custom tattoo at some point.
In addition to this I have 12 piercings five in one ear(one is a cartilage piercing) and four in the other. I’ve had all of the ear piercings for a long time and did most of them myself. I also have a vertical hood piercing which I got almost four years ago and which was a very painful experience. I have had a belly button piercing for a couple of years, and felt no pain when it was done. My newest piercing, in my right nostril, was done about 8 months ago and was quite painful to have done. I am planning on getting one more belly button piercing and a Monroe.

  86. I’m 65 and want to get a PA, but am afraid on the tendency I’ve noticed to get bigger and bigger gauged piercings.Right now all I want is a small one. Does that change? I am also a nude artist model and would wonder if I would lose gigs if I was to get one. My wife is OK with my getting one, although I can’t say she is enthusiastic about it.I thought I would just get a scrotal piercing first, but something tells me not to bother. The piercer I would be going to is a woman. Is there a problem with tha? I feel like I might get an erection with a strange woman handling the goods, and that would not only be embarrassing but might cause it to be more painful. Any one have that experience?

  87. I’m 50 and have a number of cartilege piercings which I absolutely love. The most recent being an Industrial Scaffold piercing and triple forward helix piercing. I also have a nipple piercing which I got done last year and a couple of dermal piercings. I’m really liking the Monroe piercing but wonder if I’m too old to go for it.

  88. I’m 58 and got my nipples pierced 2 years ago with CBR’s. About 3 months later my Mother commented on the ‘lumps in my shirt’, so I opened it to to show her the rings. Joking I removed one and said lets see what you would look like and lifted a breast out of her bra and after a bit of a struggle managed to get the ring to stay in place on her large & chunky nipple, she said don’t be so bloody stupid, slapped the ring down on the table and stuffed her EE back in its bra cup and the conversation quickly returned to gardening.
The following evening I turned up with my wife & went straight round the back to do the gardening, Mum brought us a cup of tea out and it was obvious she was not wearing a bra, this was definitely not normal for her, in fact I think I had ever known it before (unlike her sister, my Auntie, who was also there and I had never known to wear one). I commented on the lack of bra and she quickly blushed and went indoors. I returned again the following day to continue in the garden and again she was wearing no bra she again blushed and tried to change the subject, I twigged the connection with the conversation about my piercings and demanded to see what she had done.
I opened her blouse and found she had pierced her nipples, very deep into her aureolae, with nappy pins, they both looked red and angry. I was very concerned and phoned my piercer for advice, who suggested I take her straight in to see him. She would only go if I picked up Auntie too, this I did and they both went into the studio leaving me outside. 20 minutes later they came out, went to the counter to pay for the visit and we all went back to hers in silence. Over a cup of tea she suddenly let lose, on Aunties wedding night 62 years earlier my new Uncle had banned her from ever wearing a bra and pierced behind a nipple (behind the aureole) using a carpenters bradawl and inserted gold wire and soldered the ends together to form a ring. He pierced only one so he would be able play with the other without causing her problems and pierced behind the aureole so she would be able to feed their children, on their 1st anniversary he pierced her other nipple in the same way. Mum said how she had always been jealous of her sister pierced nipples but my Dad had forbidden her to be pierced.
At this point I asked what the piercer had said or done and she said I would have to look for myself, I opened her blouse again, he had removed the pins and repierced her as she had demanded right at he edge of her aureolae so the piercing is about 2 1/2 inches long and also at the conventional location at the base of the nipples, fitted barbells on the promise of changing them for rings after a minimum of 6 months when and if they have healed. She also said she was not wearing a bra because it was hurting too much.
I then asked my Auntie how long she had kept her nipple piercings and was a little surprised when she still had them and even more surprised that they are still the original gold loops. I then cheekily leaned over the table to undo her top and was gobsmacked to see the gold wire is 3/16″ diameter and the 2 loops are at least 5″ across, not that they are very round and the piercings are behind the nipple making them about 3″ long but the thing that really came like a bolt from the blue is the 2 rings are linked together she also has conventional piercings which were 50th & 51st anniversary additions. I could not resist and had to suck on one, the metal made an interesting difference, I then apologised, at that she laughed and said that she had fed me and my brother on a regular basis and she was missing my uncles suckling since he died a couple of years before so I was very welcome. The way she said suckling I asked if there was more to it than that and she expressed some milk, I again latched on and this time suckled, she had to give me some instruction as it had been well over 50 years since I had known how to do this, but once I was into the swing of I really enjoyed what was happening.
Mum then dropped a bombshell and said that she was also missing feeding my Dad for the last year and when her piercings were healed I would be expected to return to her breast too, they had both been in full milk since their first babies, my cousin of 60 and me.
To everyones surprise Mums piercings healed very well and at 6 months I took her to have her rings fitted, she had been pulling on them to stretch the holes and the new rings are solid gold 6 gauge and 80mm and 40mm diameter, she loves them and keeps saying how she wishes she had had them years ago.
A massive change in her is how extrovert she has now become, until this happened she would criticise anyone for having a bra strap showing and would always wear a slip so her bra could not show through her outer clothing, after the initial novelty of being bra less she now tends to wear bright coloured 1/2 cup bras so the rings are not enclosed and has purchased a selection of thin blouses, some very see through, and is proud when people see the rings. It also makes it very easy for me when I suckle her which is most times we see each other. She has started dating a ‘toy biker boy’, as she calls him of 54 years.
I say you are never too old to have piercings Mum is now 78 and considering getting some larger rings. Auntie is 82 and I take her to the studio to get genital piercings every 4 months which she gets great pleasure showing off whenever she can.

  89. Having just written this it has occured to me I did not mention the weight of the rings.
A quick calculation tells me they are both wearing around 170g or 6oz of gold.
