I got my Christina pierced with PTFE three weeks ago on Thursday, call me impatient, but is it still meant to still be red? Also, I can feel the bar through my skin when I lightly press down, is that normal?

I am taking extra strength ibuprofen to help with the swelling and I’ve had no other problems with it. I’m just terrified of rejection/migration.

Redness (especially with PTFE) is very common in a surface piercing. I would suggest, if you are worried about rejection, to get it changed to an internally threaded titanium “L” bar right away. Most good studios will have them, or can make/order them in for you.

Metal is always better in surface work as it puts much less pressure on the entrance and exit of the piercing and can be custom made to suit your anatomy perfectly. They also reduce the chance of ends coming off or the bar bending in a funny shape.

Make sure you are also doing WARM saline soaks, to promote more blood circulation and clean the crusties off without picking at them.
