I am planning a suspension on my birthday in September. I checked out suspension.org and they listed 313 Suspension for the Chicago area. I am just wondering if you had heard anything about them?

Thank you.

Sadly, I do not know their work. I’ve been able to ask around about them but I have no first hand experience with them so I wouldn’t be able to give you a recommendation for or against them.
I can tell you however that if you’re in the Chicago area there are 2 teams that I know that I would feel comfortable referring to.
One of them is NuEthix. Great team in the Chicago area. You can reach them at 414-793-6033.
The other one is Wasteland and the can be reached at wastedyouthtattoo.com.

And trust me, I’ll be yelling at both teams for not being listed on suspension.org!

  1. Thank you! Another question I hope you can answer..

I have modifications, and a suspension is something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I know not being part of a group I would have to pay, I’m just wondering about how much I would be paying for a suspension.

  2. Well Nanc, every team operates on a different kind of financial basis. Some form groups of suspendees to pay monthly dues, others ask a donation per suspension, etc, etc. There’s as many different models as there are suspension teams so you’d really have to contact the individual team to find out.

However, what I can tell you is that to safely do a suspension with gear and supplies that are acceptable to a basic community standard, costs about $150 in supplies alone. Suspension artists in general do this because they love it and don’t charge for their time so I’d expect to pay (or donate) around that amount so that the team at least can afford the supplies for your suspension.
Oh, and feel free to tip. I know I personally like to be tipped in cookies, but other crews may enjoy other things.

  4. May I also suggest D4DR, as a collective they do suspensions in the Chicago area. If you’re on FetLife, I suggest checking out Karcus’s profile. He is the piercer and is currently based in Madison, WI, but is moving fulltime to Chicago in August. I went to two of his suspensions in June and they were great. Also, he’s doing another suspension show at NiteCap on August 6th. You can check out karcus.com, too. Really nice guy, very knowledgeable and professional. Good luck!
